Overdose prevention unit now mobile

KAMLOOPS — The motorhome hosting overdose prevention services in Kamloops is operational as of today.

Interior Health says the mobile unit will enhance services already being provided at ASK Wellness on the North Shore and the Crossroads Inn on Seymour Street downtown.

IH notes this is not the same as a supervised drug consumption site.

Staff at the mobile unit will not supervise drug use, but will monitor people who have already used, responding quickly in case there are signs of an overdose occurring.

Health Canada has yet to announce its decision on an application to transform the mobile unit into a supervised consumption site.
