Overdose numbers plateau in Kamloops, spike province wide

KAMLOOPS — April was the second deadliest month on record since the beginning of BC’s opioid overdose crisis.

136 total overdose deaths were recorded across the province, second only to December of 2016, when 144 such deaths were recorded.

Despite not running in the May 9 election, Terry Lake remains BC’s Minister of Health until a new one is sworn in.

He says he hopes the situation can turn around soon.

“I know that what we have done so far has saved literally hundreds and hundreds of lives. I’m really pleased to see the federal government get passage of Bill C-37, which will make it much easier to put in harm reduction strategies such as the supervised consumption sites that we know we need more of across the country.”
