KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Major improvements could be coming to Kamloops water treatment plant.

In a report scheduled to be presented to council Tuesday, the Public Works Department is requesting $250-thousand to begin upgrades to the plant’s infrastructure and electrical systems.

The request comes after a blown transformer caused the plant to shut down for more than eight hours in March.

Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell says the incident showed critical gaps in the plant’s current infrastructure, noting equipment upgrades would ensure a similar incident doesn’t happen again.
