Rainy April in Kamloops to give way to heat

KAMLOOPS — We got the April showers, and now we’ll find out if the May flowers will follow.

Environment Canada says April in Kamloops was much wetter than normal, with 24.9 millimetres of rain recorded at Kamloops Airport.

Forecaster Alyssa Charbonneau says the normal for April in Kamloops is 14.2 millimetres.

Charbonneau notes the average temperature for the month was 9.4 degrees Celsius, down only slightly from the normal of 9.9C.

“After a really cold winter, we didn’t really see much in the way of heat,” said Charbonneau. “So it maybe felt cooler, but really it was quite close to normal.”

Charbonneau says the air will really begin to heat up later this week.

“We’re starting to see a bit of a ridge that will try to build over the southern Interior of BC. Temperatures are going to start to rise, starting tomorrow. We might still see some cloud around but it’s going to be drier, and temperatures on Thursday are peaking right now. Our high for that day is forecast to be 29C and sunny.”

“As we go into next week, we’ll actually start to see another ridge of high pressure build up with mainly sunny skies possible, much drier and temperatures again climbing into the mid-20s. So looking at the beginning part of May, we’re looking at quite a big shift from what we saw through a lot of April.”
