BC Wildlife Federation to discuss conservation at town hall

KAMLOOPS — The BC Wildlife Federation is hosting a town hall meeting in Kamloops tonight, April 4.

The meeting is one of many being held across the province, providing an opportunity to discuss declining wildlife populations such as caribou, elk, moose, and fish.

President of the Thompson-Nicola Region, Gord Bacon says the BC Wildlife Federation is concerned about losing the fish and wildlife the province is known for.

“What we’re going to talk about is what we can do as citizens and BCWF members to help get us back to where we were as a province noted for its wildlife and fishing,” Bacon said.

Other topics to be discussed include declining budgets for natural resource conservation, and a lack of science for the management of wildlife populations.

Bacon says these town hall meeting are the best way to spark a conversation, adding they also create a bit of a buzz ahead of the provincial election.

“It’s not a campaign issue, but it’s certainly done in front of a campaign, because we’d like the people to know if they have something to say about this, they get an opportunity to say it,” Bacon explained. “We’ve invited politicians to tonight, and there will be questions and answers, and presumably they’ll be able to say a few words about what their position is if they want to.”

The town hall meeting takes place at Calvary Community Church at 7 p.m.
