Prescribed burn near Lytton

LYTTON —   It’s a soggy day near Lytton and that may be exactly what crews need as they prepare for the upcoming wildfire season.

The Ministry of Forests and the Lytton First Nation hope to spark a 14-hectare prescribed burn in grass and bush about five kilometres north of Lytton, along Highway 12.

The burn will reduce wildfire threats this summer and officials say it will take about four days to complete.

Smoke and flames could be visible from both Highways 1 and 12 but the ministry says trained wildfire crews will be on scene at all times and the situation will be carefully controlled.
