KAMLOOPS — Former Tk’emlups Chief Shane Gottfriedson has resigned his position as BC Regional Chief of the Assembly of First Nations after a controversy over a social media photo.

Gottfriedson has been on a leave of absence since December.

He had faced a backlash over a social media post that showed his bare legs with a red lipstick emoji near his crotch area.

Today, AFN released a statement saying upon completion of Gottfriedson’s leave, and after a meeting with Gottfriedson, the Board of Directors and a pair of elders, it was agreed that Gottfriedson’s resignation “is in the best interests of BC First Nations.”
