KAMLOOPS — Police are confirming a weapons assault involving a BB gun occurred near Brocklehurst Middle School this afternoon.

Three youth have been arrested and one youth has been taken to Royal Inland Hospital with minor injuries.

Kamloops-Thompson School District Superintendent Alison Sidow says the incident took place just after 12 noon, meaning students were milling around the school grounds on their lunch break.

“It did occur around noon, and students were moving in and around the school. The school went into lockdown for a very short period of time. The police were there very quickly, and were able to restore order,” said Sidow.

But Sidow notes the quick police response and well-practiced lockdown procedures resulted in the situation coming under control quickly.

“We practice lockdowns twice a year very formally with the police. Staff and students have protocols that they implement as soon as there is an incident. Those protocols were implements, and all students are safe. The staff are to be commended for the way they managed the situation.”

Sidow says the young people involved were not Brock Middle School students.

“It did not involve students at Brock. Apparently they were students who were at one time at Brock Middle School, but currently they are no longer there.”

Kamloops RCMP Staff Sergeant Robert Daly confirmed the situation is under control and under investigation.
