Popular section of the Rivers Trail closed due to sewer work

KAMLOOPS — The replacement of a major sewer main along the north side of the Thompson River will result in the closure of a popular trail.

The City of Kamloops says the Rivers Trail near Aviation Way will be closed likely until April, as will Aviation Way itself.

Capital Projects Manager Darren Crundwell says the closure begins immediately.

“They started this week. The project is in general from Aviation Way to adjacent to the airport runway, so it impacts that access to the Rivers Trail. While we are in that area, we have no option but to shutdown the access to the trail,” explained Crundwell.

Crundwell says the project will pause during high water, which will likely be for most of the summer.
