Blazers ground Rockets 6-0, Ingram earns shutout

KAMLOOPS — The Blazers had a slow start, but finished strong in a 6-0 win over the Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday night at home.

Nolan Kneen got the Blazers on the scoreboard first as his shot went off a Rockets defender past goaltender Michael Herringer for a 1-0 lead. Connor Ingram had a solid first period with 15 saves as the Rockets outshot the Blazers 15-6.

The Blazers were much better in the second period as they had 18 shots and scored twice. Rudolfs Balcers set up Garrett Pilon for his 14th goal off the rush. Collin Shirley followed it up with a power play goal for a 3-0 lead for the Blazers through two periods.

The Rockets had no answer for the Blazers in the third period as they scored three time to make it a 6-0 final. Ondrej Vala, Rudolfs Balcers and Erik Miller added third period goals to make it a route for the Blazers.

Connor Ingram earned his first career assist on the Blazers 6th goal in his 146th career game. Ingram also recorded his 10th career shutout to tie Cole Cheveldave for third on the Blazers all-time list.

With the win, the Blazers improved to 33-18-2-3 on the season as they won their 20th home game of the year. The win puts the Blazers with 71 points which is second in the B.C. Division, seven points behind Prince George and seven points up on both Victoria and Kelowna.

The Blazers will head to Victoria for two games this weekend on Friday and Saturday night.
