Snow in Vancouver, Calgary causes flight delays, cancellations in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Flights were taking off from the Fulton Field on Monday, but at a much slower pace with multiple delays for travellers heading to both Vancouver and Calgary.

After a snow-filled weekend all across the province, including another few centimetres falling in Kamloops over the last couple days, four flights were delayed on monday and another flight cancelled.

“It’s frustrating, but you can’t do much. Take it as it is,” said one traveller heading to Vancouver.

It’s been a snowy mess in vancouver, including  including a record 12 centimeters at the Vancouver International Airport, and that has been the source of the problem at YKA.

The sun shone down on the Kamloops Airport for most of Monday, but the nasty weather in Vancouver and Calgary caused the delays.

“We’ve had some delays, we’ve had cancellations that work their way through the system. But I think the biggest issue today is both Calgary and Vancouver are having heavy snowfall warnings, so it’s a double whammy for us,” says Kamloops Airport manager Fred Legace.

The 9:35 flight to Vancouver was delayed this morning by an hour and 40 minutes, as was the Kamloops to Vancouver flight schedule to take off at 12:20, giving travellers plenty of time to sit around.

The 7:50 p.m. flight to Vancouver was cancelled early Monday due to the weather, and a snowfall warning persists in the Lower Mainland, and that could cause even more delays in Kamloops.
