Blazers shrink Giants 6-3

KAMLOOPS — The Blazers got off to a hot start as they led 3-0 after the first period and went on to win 6-3 over the Vancouver Giants on Saturday night. 

Deven Sideroff opened the scoring 2:55 into the game on a rebound. Nick Chyzowski followed up Sideroff’s goal up on a great individual effort off a faceoff for a 2-0 lead. Rudolfs Balcers scored on a rebound as the Blazers took a 3-0 lead into the second period. 

The Giants made it 3-1 early in the second period, but Joe Gatenby got one back on a great rush as the Blazers led 4-1 through two periods. 

Gatenby made it 5-1 with a power play goal early in the third period, but the Giants started a come back. Goals from Brayden Watts and Ty Ronning cut the Blazers lead to 5-3. 

Collin Shirley scored a big goal with 5:41 to play. He muscled his way to the net shorthanded to make it 6-3 and solidify the win for the Blazers. 

The Blazers were 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. The Blazers outshot the Giants 34-28 overall. 

Dylan Ferguson earned his 12th win of the season as he started his 15th straight game for the Blazers in Connor Ingram’s absence. 

With the win, the Blazers improve to 26-16-1-2 on the season. 

The Blazers will play next on Tuesday, January 17th as they host the Moose Jaw Warriors at the Sandman Centre.
