KAMLOOPS — Despite lower than normal demand on New Years Eve, organizers with Operation Red Nose say this year’s campaign was a success.

Co-ordinator Katie Klassen says demand for service on New Years Eve was down more than 20-percent compared to last year.

It’s traditionally the organization’s busiest night of the year.

However, Klassen says the weather played a large part in more people staying home.

“New Years Eve was a little bit slower for us just because the roads were slippery and slick,” said Klassen. “We didn’t have as many volunteers as we’d like but we did 153 rides.”

Operation Red Nose provided 1,241 rides during the holiday season and raised more than $30,000 which benefits Pacific Sport.

Klassen says the group’s ongoing success is a sign more people are being responsible and not drinking and driving.

“Kamloops really utilizes the service,” said Klassen.”We get lots of volunteers because they believe in the service and want to help out during the holiday season. We’re really getting the word out there and every year is continuing to grow.”
