ASHCROFT, B.C. — UPDATE-  RCMP have released more details regarding a fatal two vehicle crash just outside Ashcroft this afternoon.

In a news release, police say they attended just after 12:00 Noon after receiving a report of the crash at the intersection of the Trans Canada Highway and Cornwall Road near Ashcroft.

Two commercial transport vehicles had collided.  Road conditions were good, but there was apparently heavy fog in the area which limited visibility.

One semi was turning left onto the Trans Canada, and had nearly cleared the intersection when the rear of the trailer was hit by a northbound semi travelling on the highway.

The driver of the northbound semi died at the scene. The driver of the other rig received minor injuries, and his female passenger was taken to hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Investigators have been at the scene all day and the highway has been closed in both directions. It is expected to be reopened sometime later this evening. Check Drive B.C. for updated information.

Police are looking for any witnesses to help them with the investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Ashcroft RCMP at 250-453-2216.

No names have been released.
