KAMLOOPS — The Salvation Army’s Kettle Campaign is nearing its end. With a bit of a slow start, a $200,000 fundraising goal may be out of reach.

However, daily donations have picked up since the cold snap that gripped Kamloops last week ended.

With a current total of $151,000, The Salvation Army is nearing last year’s total of $167,000.

“We’re now caught up almost to last year’s totals, so I think we’re going to be around the same as last year, which is a great thing,” said Captain Paul Trickett. “We’re not going to hit our total that we thought, but we’re getting close.”

As the Kettle Campaign wraps up, the Salvation Army’s next focus will be on a meal for people in need. While other organizations are hosting holiday dinners in late December, the Salvation Army will be holding off until the new year.

“We’re trying to be practical,” Trickett said, “and we found out that there are numerous Christmas dinners happening in Kamloops, and what we find is often our clientele are almost forgotten about after Christmas, and our team said, ‘Hey, why don’t we do a Christmas dinner in January and just bless people after the Christmas season.’”
