IH considers bringing overdose prevention sites to Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Health Minister Terry Lake says Interior Health is considering overdose prevention sites, similar to what have been rolled out in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.

Lake applauded a federal government move announced today that would see barriers to opening supervised consumption sites drastically reduced.

But Lake says it’s too urgent to wait for those changes to go through parliament.

“I know Interior Health is looking at overdose prevention sites or services before we get to that point, because we just can’t wait. We have to save lives today. We can’t wait for this new legislation to come into place, and for the process that is still needed to open up the supervised consumption site,” said Lake.
