Old Man Winter here for a long time, not a good time

KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada says temperatures in the BC Interior are about 10 to 15 degrees below seasonal norms right now, and will stay that way for another week at the least.

Forecaster Ross MacDonald says an arctic air mass has settled in, bringing frigid cold to the entire province.

“This very cold, deep, penetrating Arctic air mass which has come down from Alaska and the Yukon has settled in right over all of us in B.C. and has brought very cold temperatures right across the province.”

MacDonald adds the silver lining is that, apart from a dusting of snow over the next couple of days, the Interior should see plenty of sunshine accompanying those cold temperatures.

“We will struggle to really get any temperatures above -10°C right through the next week. Our long range computer models are suggesting this cold air is going to stay with us at least until next week. We are really in the grips of Old Man Winter here.”

“With daytime highs struggling to hit the minus double-digits, and overnight lows dipping down to -15°C to -20°C, we are looking at temperatures, at least for the week to next ten days being below seasonal by about 10-15 degrees.”
