KAMLOOPS — As we get closer to Christmas, people are making their lists and checking them twice. But according to the Kamloops RCMP, shoppers should be checking their vehicles first this holiday season.

Every year, there is a spike in thefts from cars during the Christmas season. Shoppers leaving their purchases in plain view inside their cars, making them vulnerable to thieves.

The City of Kamloops’ Community Safety team is hoping to reduce the numbers, putting flyers on cars as a friendly reminder to keep their gifts safe and out of sight.

It’s recommended you do your Christmas shopping near the end of the day, if possible, or at the very least, take the gifts home right away.
