Santa Claus is coming to the mall, after all

KAMLOOPS — North Shore children better not pout, and they better not cry: Santa Claus *is* coming to town – and to the Northills Mall – this Christmas season.

The mall’s landlord, Prospero International, had initially decided to cancel Santa’s appearance this year and replace it with a key promotion, in which young mall-goers could try to open a gift box to win a prize.

But that led to a social media backlash, and a petition from the mall’s tenants calling for Prospero to reverse the decision.

Vice President of Retail Properties Rick Halliday says the mall’s anchor tenant, Your Independent Grocers, has stepped up and will bring Santa in after all.

Halliday says the lesson has been learned.

“We thought we had a good promotion. We didn’t realize maybe what the reaction was going to be, so maybe lesson learned there. Thanks to a couple of our tenants, especially Jason at Your Independent Grocers, we will have that and we will have the bonus of the key promotion as well,” said Halliday.

The dates of Santa’s stay at Northills Mall have yet to be confirmed.

“Obviously we are prepared to assist them however we can in terms of display, in terms of the things we would typically use for the Santa display,” said Halliday.
