KAMLOOPS — The father of the teenage girl who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Pacific Way Friday night is urging the driver to come forward.

Cameron Gatey told CFJC affiliate Global BC his daughter Jennifer Gatey would have turned 17 Saturday.

Gatey said his daughter had left their home Friday night to go to the gym. About an hour later the police knocked on the door to say Jennifer had been struck and killed in a hit and run.

“If you took the saddest you’ve ever been and multiplied it by a million times, that’s what it felt like,” he said.

Gatey says the person responsible for Jennifer’s death should think about all the lives that have been ruined by this incident.

“You know that you hit my daughter, and you killed her on the side of the road, and you left her there.” Gatey said. “I can’t imagine a person that can do that, I can’t imagine what’s in their heart and what goes through their head, and I want you to turn yourself in.”

Gatey describes his daughter as a wonderful kid.

“I loved her dearly, I still love her dearly. I can’t believe that she’s gone,” he said. “She was smart, she was intelligent, she was athletic, she was fun-loving, and I just can’t imagine the rest of my life without her.”

Kamloops RCMP are actively looking for the owner or driver of a dark-coloured Jeep-style vehicle. A residential surveillance video shows the vehicle in the area at the time of the hit and run.

A candle-light vigil was held for Jennifer Gatey Saturday night in Aberdeen.

Hundreds of friends, family, and community members gathered to pay their respects and light a candle for the 16 year old.

A memorial of balloons, gifts, and messages to Gatey is growing at the road side of Pacific Way.
