Cargo plane loses part on Kamloops Airport runway

KAMLOOPS — A cargo aircraft taking off from Kamloops had to divert from Prince George to Kelowna after it dropped a part on the Kamloops Airport runway.

Airport Manager Fred Legace says the Convair CV580 belongs to KF Aerospace, and diverted to its base in Kelowna for repairs.

Legace says airport personnel had to remove a large clamp from the runway.

“It appears that the aircraft is unaffected getting out of here. I’m certain the part was important for some reason. The biggest piece for us was to make sure that it was identified and recovered from the runway. I think it probably would have been not great had an aircraft contacted that while taking off, or landing,” explained Legace.
