School district to hire sexual-orientation coordinator

KAMLOOPS — School District 73 is on the verge of hiring a district sexual-orientation and gender-identity coordinator.

Superintendent Alison Sidow says the posting closes this week and will be filled shortly. The part-time coordinator will be responsible for bringing about more awareness and helping make LGBTQ students feel more safe at school.

It comes comes after the B.C. government announced last month that schools will be required to include specific protections for gay, lesbian and transgender students in their anti-bullying policies.
