KAMLOOPS — Interior Health has approved 243 new residential care beds, including dozens for Kamloops.

According to a news release, Kamloops will receive 48 new beds, with their locations to be determined once a competitive bid process has been carried out.

Salmon Arm will receive 60 beds, and 70 will be placed in Williams Lake.

The remainder will be divided between Cranbrook and Penticton.

IH says today’s announcement follows a review of several communities that included “current demographics, wait times, referral patterns, complexity of residents, and population projections.”

A Request for Proposals (RFP) will be issued for the beds later this month, with expected completion in summer of 2018.

In addition to the 243 beds announced today, 100 Mile House will receive 14 new beds in space already set aside at Fischer Place/Mill Site Lodge.

Those are expected to be ready for next spring.
