LYTTON — The weather has given firefighters a big boost in fighting the South Spencer Road wildfire south of Lytton.

The fire is now 75% contained, and has remained static at roughly 532 hectares.

As a result, most of the evacuation orders and alerts issued at the end of August have now been rescinded. B.C. Wildfire service says the only one still in effect is the evacuation alert for the area between the CN train bridge in Lytton north to the Stein River.

Wildfire officials say they don’t expect to be able to contain the blaze at more than 75%, because some of the areas still burning are up in very high elevations where it is difficult to get at. The areas are not a threat to life or property. The hope is that eventually, the fire will burn itself out come winter, although officials say they will continue to monitor the area closely.
