VERNON, B.C. — Firefighters from Vernon Fire Rescue Services and the BC Wildfire Service say  the Kokanee Road fire near Predator Ridge has been contained and have rescinded the evacuation alert for about 45 homes in the Sunset properties.

“There are still some existing hot spots and noticeable smoke in the area, and firefighters will continue to monitor the area. Initial Attack crew has arrived on the scene along with two investigators from BC Wildfire Service,” says Tanya Laing Gahr from the City of Vernon.

The fire began Saturday afternoon in some grass and quickly grew to about 10 hectares.

Strong winds fanned the flames, and air tankers and helicopters from the Wildfire Service were used to contain the fire.
