Tk’emlups Indian Band restricts access to beach property

KAMLOOPS — The Tk’emlups Indian Band has made a decision to ban non-members from its beachfront property.

After numerous complaints about ongoing problems with people drinking and partying, a sign has been erected between the Red Bridge and the Silver Sage Trailer Park, declaring the beach in that area off limits to anyone outside of the reserve.

The Tk’emlups Indian Band members say the beach has been littered with garbage left behind by visitors, and drug needles have been found on the property as well.

The TIB has one bylaw officer monitoring the riverfront, and the band is currently working with the city to find a better way to patrol the area.
