Coroners Service says no new OD deaths in Kamloops last month

KAMLOOPS — There is some good news in the fight against illicit drug deaths in Kamloops.

According to new numbers from the BC Coroners Service, Kamloops sits at 22 overdose deaths to the end of July.

That’s the same total as of the end of June, meaning there were no new overdose deaths in July.

However, the service has determined that a larger proportion of those deaths involved the powerful opiate fentanyl.

12 of the 22 Kamloops deaths were fentanyl-related.

At the end of June, the service had only determined eight deaths involved fentanyl.

Overall, the province has recorded 433 drug deaths so far this year, a 74 per cent increase over the same time period in 2015.
