Investigation continues into Coquihalla crash

MERRITT, B.C. —  It may be a few days before we find out more about that crazy crash on the Coquihalla Friday afternoon which resulted in a semi careening down the highway south of the snowshed tunnel, smashing into more than a dozen other vehicles before coming to a stop.

Police says seven people were taken to hospital.

The truck apparently is part of a Surrey-based trucking firm, and is being inspected by the Ministry of Transportation.

Some witnesses said the truck came flying down the hill, missed the runaway lane and kept plowing into vehicles, narrowly missing others.

RCMP aren’t saying whether there was an actual problem with the brakes, and are also looking into what the driver did at the brake check just above the snowshed. There was a report that the truck didn’t stop at the brake check, but RCMP says the information they have at this point is that the truck did stop at the brake check at Zopkios.
