KAMLOOPS — It was a frightening situation in downtown Kamloops that could have gone terribly wrong.

Three employees at the United Way office on Victoria Street were held hostage for nearly a half hour when a Kamloops man walked in and demanded a ransom. That 51-year-old man, known to the employees, is in custody and now faces serious charges.

But despite the incident that has shaken everyone up, the dangerous encounter isn’t changing how the United Way cares for people.
