MacDonald has years of experience in theatre, including his last role as the Artistic Association at Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, where Cloran is going.

“It’s such an incredible opportunity to come and work with such a vibrant, growing community,” says MacDonald, who has acted and director plays across the country. “This theatre is the envy of many across the country because of the number of people in the community that actually come and attend the theatre here.”

“The support is just phenomenal for a city of this size. That’s an indication of not only the incredible support for the program but there’s also room for growth.”

Alison MacDonald, an actress with Western Canada Theatre, worked with James when he was Program Director of the Banff Centre Professional Theatre Program. She says he’s a great addition and will win over audiences.

“I don’t know what shows he’d put on, but he’s all about the relationships and the story and the truth of the characters, and making it exciting and accessible for everyone,” she says. “I just think it’s amazing to have him, it’s really awesome.”
