KAMLOOPS —  RCMP have a 47-year old Alberta man in custody as well as a sawed-off shotgun after an overnight arrest.

The incident actually started last night (Thursday) , when police got a report of suspicious activity in the parking lot of the Petro Canada station on Copperhead Drive. When police arrived, they found a stolen travel trailer, with no vehicle attached. A suspect black Dodge pickup with Alberta licence plates was eventually spotted travelling east on the Trans Canada in Valleyview. Police followed the vehicle to the 2100 block of Dallas Drive, where it turned into a private driveway.

The driver took off on foot but was tracked down by the police service dog just before 1:00 AM. The man was arrested, and a loaded 12-gauge shotgun was found nearby. The pickup was apparently stolen from Westaskiwin, Alberta. Inside were several items which police think had been stolen as well.

Police are still investigating and charges are expected.
