KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Venom are heading back to the provincial championships, and for the second straight year, the Venom won the Thompson Okanagan Junior Lacrosse title in Vernon.

Led by Kyle Pauwels and Riley Peterson, who each had two goals and three assists in the series-clincher, the Venom won 10-7 to capture back-to-back league championships for the first time ever.

Kamloops, which coughed up a 2-0 series lead last year against Vernon, didn’t want an encore, closing out the sweep in dramatic fashion. The Venom led 8-4 after the second period, and Vernon made a comeback attempt, getting to within one. But in the end, the Venom held off the Tigers to win the team’s third league title in the last five years, all wins over Vernon.

They now get ready for the provincial championships, starting on Friday, July 29 in Coquitlam.
