SCOTCH CREEK, B.C. — Tourism-related businesses in the Shuswap region say the rainy July is definitely taking a chunk out of their revenue, but it’s not disastrous.

Barbara Rivest of Shuswap Unique Adventure Tours was one of several tourism operators who spoke to CFJC.

Her business offers Segway tours throughout the region.

Rivest says fewer nearby residents venture into the Shuswap on drizzly days, but there are still plenty of vacationers out having fun.

“[Vacationers from out of province] are still coming out, because they’ve already planned their things, and they just make do. As far as people that are jumping in their car and coming out to camp for the weekend or a few days, they aren’t bothering because it is cold and rainy.”

“I think numbers are down for everyone, just as far as people that are out and about camping and what not, so I think that definitely has affected business. However, I still do get folks putting on a rain coat and coming out.”

Rivest notes she can still salvage a good summer for business if the weather improves in coming weeks.

“Last year was definitely a good year. People were out and about and doing fun things, the weather was fairly steady and warm. That definitely brings more people out to the Shuswap area.”
