KAMLOOPS — Another edition of the Highland Games wrapped up in Kamloops this weekend, with Scottish tradition taking over Albert McGowan Park, including the heavy events that pre-date modern Olympic sport.

The legend has it, in the 12th century, King Malcolm III summoned the swiftest runners in all of scotland for a foot race in order to find the fastest man in the land to be his royal messenger, thus beginning the tradition of the games.

The heart of the Games is the heavy events, athletic competitions that test the mettle of the men and women who compete.
