VERNON, B.C. — Charges have been dropped against one of the suspects in a Vernon murder case.

A stay of proceedings has been entered in Vernon provincial court against 19 year old Brandon Wellington.

Wellington was one of three suspects charged with the second degree murder of 42 year old Jason Hardy.

Hardy’s body was found near the lawn bowling facility in Polson Park last August.

Dan McLaughlin from the Criminal Justice Branch outlines the reason for the stay.

“The Crown prosecutor with conduct to the files concluded that the charge assessment standard with respect to Mr. Brandon Wellington can no longer be met. This conclusion was reached after hearing the evidence presented at the preliminary hearing and reviewing the other evidence available to the Crown,” McLaughlin tells Kiss FM.

Two other males face charges in the case: 29 year old Tal La Riviere and a 15 year old boy, although McLaughlin says the charge against the teen is “under review.”

Police have not released what caused Hardy’s death, or a possible motive.
