TRU taps into a gold mine

KAMLOOPS — Thompson Rivers University is one step closer to launching a five-year research chair program that would look into the reclamation of old mine sites.

New Gold has announced a $200 thousand grant to the program, a contribution that would follow previous funding announcements from Genome BC and the BC Real Estate Association.

Lauchlan Fraser says the program would transform how TRU does research.

“It supports a position, which is the chair, but it also supports all the research activities around that chair which includes collaborating with colleagues at TRU as well as colleagues at other universities, and supporting a large number of students,” said Fraser.
