KAMLOOPS — It’s one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the Kamloops SPCA.

The third annual Fur Ball Gala takes place Saturday evening. The event raises money to help provide medical care to the animals, as well as general maintenance of the shelter building.

The Gala is part of City Challenge, a friendly competition that sees Kamloops go head to head with Prince George to see which city can raise the most money for their shelter.

Last year’s event raised approximately $20,000 for the shelter in Kamloops. Lyndsay Stewart with the Kamloops SPCA said the hope is to beat that amount this year.

“Each year it seems to get more and more popular,” Stewart said. “We’ve got more people coming all the time … it just grows every year. We get more donations, more auction items, bigger items like the West Jet trip. We had one last year, we have another one this year. It’s really cool, really exciting.”

The sold-out event will take place at the Coast Hotel and Conference Centre at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night.
