Kamloops Sexual Assault Centre angered with Ghomeshi verdict
KAMLOOPS — Jian Ghomeshi was acquitted Thursday on all charges of sexual assault and choking following a trial that sparked an emotional nationwide debate on how the justice system treats abuse complainants as well as raucous courthouse protests over the verdict.
Charlene Eden of the Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre says the verdict angers her as a woman, but also illustrates problems with Canada’s justice system.
Eden says the verdict raises the question of whether the judicial system recognizes the impact of trauma on sexual assault victims.
