KAMLOOPS — BC's opposition NDP are raising concerns over the company chosen to provide laundry services to Interior Health.

When the privatization announcement was made last week, Interior Health said the company selected is Ecotex Healthcare Linen Service, based in Abbotsford.

But NDP MLA Michelle Mungall says a company by the same name is based in Seattle, and she believes that company is the parent company.

Mungall says regardless of where the company is based, Interior Health's decision still doesn't make sense.

"We were doing laundry services for our hospitals in house, at an efficient and affordable rate to the taxpayer, and now we are actually going to be paying more to a private company, to provide our communities with [fewer] jobs, and the profits ultimately going somewhere else," said Mungall.

In an email exchange with CFJC News, Ecotex spokesman Bryan Bartsch says the Abbotsford-based company is the parent company, and the American-based Ecotex is a subsidiary.
