KAMLOOPS — Bicycle thefts are commonplace in nearly every Canadian city, but thieves in Kamloops took it a step further.

The City of Kamloops says one of its bicycle repair stations at McArthur Island Park was ripped from a concrete pad and stolen this week.

Sustainability Services Supervisor Glen Cheetham says there wouldn't be a lot of value to the thief.

"Although they did go to some trouble, it's permanently bolted to the concrete pad, and it appears there was perhaps a grinder or some kind of tool used to remove it, so it seems someone worked hard to get it," said Cheetham.

There are several of the small red stations throughout the city.

They allow cyclists to pump tires and make other basic repairs before continuing on their way.

If you know anything about the theft, call Kamloops RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
