Kamloops Daily News Building to remain standing, for now

KAMLOOPS — The former Kamloops Daily News building will remain standing, at least for now.

City Council voted Tuesday afternoon in favour of not demolishing the building to make way for parking. Councillor Denis Walsh put forward a motion today, to discuss other options for the site, rather than knocking it down. Walsh says the property is a spectacular one, and the future of the site deserves a detailed study. Council made the decision to leave the building as is for at least another year.

“What was passed today was item D out of the list, which is for the instructing staff to explore other options for expression of interest, or request for proposals by the private sector, to see if anybody out there wants to partner with the city or has another idea for that development property,” says Walsh.
