KAMLOOPS — NDP Leader John Horgan says a new contract announced for the Site C dam project on the Peace River comes in $250 million more than an estimate made just last month.

BC Hydro has announced it will pay Peace River Hydro Partners $1.75 billion to build major components of the project, including the earthen dam, foundation, two diversion tunnels and spillways.

Peace River Hydro Partners consists of three separate companies, and is not without controversy.

According to the BC Building Trades Council, the contract means workers from Alberta and Saskatchewan may be eligible to fill as many as 1500 jobs.
