KSAR warning about ice on lakes

KAMLOOPS — Kamloops Search and Rescue out with a warning for those thinking of ice fishing.

Search Manager Alan Hobler says before heading out onto a lake it’s crucial to ensure the ice is strong enough.

“I believe the minimum thickness should be 3 or 4 inches. If the ice is opaque or white it should be thicker than that. And that’s just for one person out on the ice,” says Hobler.

Hobler says the other concern is ice on rivers and advises the public to stay off the Thompson River because the ice can vary considerably in short ranges.
