Medical Marijuana protest in Vernon

VERNON — Medical marijuana patients in Vernon will stage a peaceful protest today against the potential shutdown of dispensaries by RCMP.

Five facilities were warned by police last month they were operating illegally and could be shuttered, and that prompted them to stage rotating openings.

The facilities say they must keep product available for hundreds of clients and want the RCMP to hold off action until the new federal government develops its legalization plan.

The protest comes as RCMP on Vancouver Island served three Nanaimo dispensaries with search warrants earlier this month and arrested 16 people.
