KAMLOOPS — The RCMP’s North Shore Community Policing Office on Fortune Drive will close December 11 in anticipation of its move to a new location.

RCMP made the announcement today, saying all the services will remain available through the downtown Kamloops detachment on Battle Street.

The new North Shore location is slated to open next spring at 880 Eighth Street, the former site of a car dealership.

Corporal Cheryl Bush says the North Shore office is a front counter service that allows members of the public to make complaints, complete paperwork, pick up and drop off documentation.

Bush says people will need to come to the Battle Street location to do that until the new office opens on Eighth Street.

She adds the new North Shore location will give the RCMP more space, and allow them to alleviate some of the space pressure in the main detachment office downtown.

Kamloops council was recently asked to approve an extra $400-thousand to retrofit the Eighth Street property, with city staff citing rotten HVAC ducts and increased safety requirements provided by RCMP administration as the reason for the added budget.

The increase brings the renovation budget to more than $1 million.
