The new chief of the Tk’emlups Indian Band Fred Seymour is a week into his new job, and he is already working towards his goal of more economic development for the band.

Chief Seymour, a former Band Councillor for the past 15 years, says one of his first priorities is developing band land on which businesses can settle, particularly developing the area around the CN Rail yard along the North Thompson.

“Developing our designated land, which will bring in new lease and tax, employment opportunities for the band,” says Seymour. “Create employment, more forward in a positive manner, I think we will. I think we’ve got a diverse Council at the table, a representative from each family.”

Seymour says he’s adjusting to his new role and working with four new Council members. Seymour says he wants to get members more involved.
