Okanagan Mountains Open Early

Nov 18, 2015 | 10:55 AM

Downhill skiers can get an earlier-than-expected jump on the slopes at Silver Star.

The resort is opening this Saturday, five days ahead of schedule, thanks to a steady snowfall this week.

Three chairlifts will be operating with at least 25 runs open starting at 8:30 Saturday November 21st.

The hill will be open Sunday as well, and will then close until full daily operations begin Thursday, November 26th.

The alpine snow base is currently at 73 centimetres with 148 centimetres cumulative snowfall to date and more snow is in the forecast this week.

Because not all runs will be open, the resort is offering 50 per cent off lift tickets and reduced rental rates.

Big White Resort near Kelowna is also open, boasting a snow base of 118cm in the apline.

Snowfall numbers are accurate as of Noon November 18th 2015
