Winter weather plaguing B.C. highways

The Trans Canada Highway re-opened between Revelstoke and Golden around 5pm Tuesday. It had been closed most of the day due to a vehicle incident.

The Trans Canada is also closed (as of 5pm) around Hope due to power lines down.

A mudslide came down over the southbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway about 10 kilometers south of the Great Bear Snowshed. VSA Highway Maintenance says it is assessing the slide but traffic is getting through.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Coquihalla Highway – all the way from Kamloops through to Hope. Forecaster Doug Lundquist says that precipitation is falling as snow in the higher elevations. Lundquist adds the weather will improve considerably starting tomorrow through to the end of the week and that the temperature will drop to near freezing but the wind will ease off and we should get plenty of sunshine.
