Performing Arts Centre Voter Turnout High

Kamloops residents appear very eager to have their voices heard on the question of borrowing money to build a performing arts centre. The City of Kamloops says 1,529 ballots were cast in the first day of advanced voting yesterday.

That compares to just 668 votes cast on the first day of advanced voting for last year’s municipal election and 854 votes cast in all of advanced voting for the 2003 Tournament Capital facility referendum.

The second day of advanced voting is planned for next Monday.

Pro and con forces are still lobbying hard to sway your opinion. Nelly Dever, leading the PAC Not Yet committee says the rosy business case presented to council didn’t tell the whole story. Mayor Peter Milobar says the same reluctance around cost and use was expressed in 2003.
