Liberal Majority Government Elected

Oct 20, 2015 | 3:12 AM

The Liberals have powered into government with one of the most stunning comebacks in Canadian political history. Justin Trudeau headed into the election with fewer than 40 seats and his Liberals have surpassed the 170 seats required for a majority. The Harper Conservatives finished a distant second. The only place where the Conservatives dominated was the Prairies. Prime Minister Stephen Harper conceded defeat and said while it’s not the result the Conservatives had hoped for, the people are always right. Although Harper didn’t say he was stepping down as leader, Conservative party president John Walsh issued a statement saying Harper has told him to ask the caucus to appoint an interim leader.
